Description of event:
Apply to register to vote in the state of Illinois in preparation for the 2020 elections. If you are a first time voter in Illinois, need to change your address on your voter registration record or your name, we can help you complete the Illinois Voter Registration Application and will send it to the Chicago Board of Elections for you.
You must be able to provide your driver’s license number or a State of Illinois identification card number. If you do not have either of these, you may provide the last four digits of your social security number on the Illinois Voter Registration Application.
If the Chicago Board of Elections is able to verify your identity with one of these numbers, it will not be necessary for you to show identification in order to vote.
If the Chicago Board of Elections cannot verify your identity through a valid driver’s license number, State of Illinois identification card number or social security number, the Chicago Board of Elections will contact you and you will need to provide identification before you can vote. Acceptable forms of identification include:
- a copy of a current and valid photo identification;
- a copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document that shows your name & address.
A copy of your identification can be mailed in an envelope to the Chicago Board of Elections office along with the Illinois Voter Registration Application, or can be shown the first time you vote.
